Park Spotlight - Waldameer & Water World
Located in Erie, Pennsylvania, Waldameer & Water World is the one of the oldest operating amusement parks in the United States. The park offers many small attractions and five roller coasters, including Ravine Flyer II, which has been regarded as one of the best hybrid coasters in the country. The park also houses the "Wacky Shack" dark ride, which is the only ride of its kind to still be open today. Waldameer is also located on the banks of Lake Erie, which makes for a beautiful and unique location. The park opened in 1896 and is one of the few trolley parks that still remain in operation. A trolley park is an amusement park or recreation area that was built by streetcar companies in order to boost their ridership. This boost in ridership also greatly contributed to the growth in popularity in amusement parks in the late 19th and early 20th century. Interestingly, the park offers free parking and admission and is also pet friendly. Also, Water World features over 15 water slides, which includes one water coaster called Rocket Blast. This compliments an already historic and charming amusement park.
